Grassroots Projects

Hope for Haiti focuses on education and long-term sustainable projects. We provide the foundation necessary to
build self-sufficient communities. In place of short-term projects that give out food and supplies that only focus on
today, we provide the necessary training and skills development to help the communities of Ile-a-Vach provide for themselves.

FEATURED PROJECTS

educating the youth

Hope for Haiti has been working with the administration of Ecole du St. Espirit de Grande Sable since 2006. At that time the small school in Grand-Sable, Ile-a-Vache provided preschool through second grade classes for 35 children whose families did not have the means to pay the costs associated with private or public education.. Ecole du St. Espirit de Grande Sable found it's roots in a one room school with a dirt floor, palm frond walls and a tin roof that was destroyed during the 2007 hurricane season. In 2009 Hope for Haiti built a five classroom school for the community of Grand Sable. In 2011 five additional classrooms, a cafeteria, library, and administrative offices were built. The school currently enrolls over 100 students (ages 3-13) annually and employees 13 full time personnel.

agriculture training

Hope for Haiti develops and supports self-sufficient agriculture projects. Our projects train local farmers to produce more food while conserving their environment. These sustainable projects provide families with food and income, and can be started with as little as $100.

Hope for Haiti agriculture projects:

  • Farming Soil conservation and composting
  • Fishing
  • Chicken farms
  • Moringa plant cultivation and vitamin processing

small business development

Hope for Haiti supports a number of local economic initiatives supporting small businesses. We provide capital to startup entrepreneurs as well existing businesses, and train existing and prospective business owners. We have partnered with a local women's group to form a microfinance group that provides low interest and interest free loans, and acts as a support group for women owned businesses.

Health initiatives

Hope for Haiti partners with local contractors to install rain water collection systems and communal composting latrines on the island. We also provide locally sourced water filters to households in the village of Grand Sable. The water filters provide clean safe drinking water, and are easy to use and maintain.
